L&rsquo;offre s&rsquo;est finalement mat\u00e9rialis\u00e9e le 1er f\u00e9vrier \u00e0 plus de 44 ,milliards. They think it raises <em>\u201ctroubling questions\u201d<\/em> and threatens <em>\u201cthe underlying principles of the Internet: openness and innovation.\u201d<\/em> Microsoft is also vilified as engaging in <em>\u201cinappropriate and illegal influence\u201d<\/em> and having <em>\u201clegacy of serious legal and regulatory offenses.\u201d<\/em> They mention, among other things, the overwhelming market share in instant messaging and email, and the large number of page views their respective portals generate.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">But 2008 may be the year Google can no longer hide behind the \u201cDavid v. Goliath\u201d defense with Microsoft. Google is the reason that Yahoo has stumbled so badly, and may be Microsoft\u2019s last hope to be a meaningful player on the Internet over the long run. To put it bluntly, the roles are reversed. Google is now the Goliath, and they\u2019re public whimpering on the acquisition makes them look petty and scared.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The fact is that this deal isn\u2019t about email, IM or even page views. Otherwise, all the ills perpetrated on the world by Microsoft in the nineties will likely be repeated again, this time by Google.<o:p><\/o:p> When it comes to Google <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunch.com\/2007\/07\/22\/the-fcc-needs-to-listen-to-google\/\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">standing up to the FCC <\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-CA\">and the incumbent wireless carriers to make our life better, I\u2019m behind them 100%.
